Dear Parents/Guardians,
The staff at Northridge Middle School is committed to providing the highest quality of education for our students, as indicated in our HEADS UP core values. Education is our calling and Student Success we strive to engage each student to achieve at high levels every single day. Each 6th grade student at NMS was given a screening assessment through Acadience to determine his/her reading performance and level. Your child’s scores indicate he/she may benefit from additional support in reading. Although he/she is receiving reading instruction daily in the classroom, he/she has still not shown the needed growth to maintain grade level progress.
Therefore, we will be offering a summer intensive reading program. Based on the review of the diagnostic assessment, data shows that your child would benefit from our summer program. Your child is highly encouraged to participate this summer with the goal of increasing skills in the following areas: advanced phonics skills, oral reading fluency, and comprehension using multi-tiered and standards-aligned strategies that focus on improving those skills.
A summer math program will also be offered to students who want to improve their math skills. Summer math will help students to review and strengthen important concepts to make sure students are ready for the fall. Students will build confidence and sharpen their fluency while having fun with math. This will be open to all students in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade.
The summer intensive reading and math programs will take place beginning June 6th and ending on June 30, 2022. The programs will run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Thursday. There will be no sessions on Fridays. Session A will be held from 8:00 am- 10:00am and session B will run from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm- Transportation and breakfast/lunch will be provided. We will continue to monitor student progress on a regular basis in order to ensure student success. We look forward to seeing your student this summer.
